Bumble is a popular dating app: in 2022 over 50 million people had a Bumble account. It distinguishes itself from other dating sites with an interesting feature: only women can start a conversation.

But what if someone finds themselves unjustly banned from Bumble? Well, no need to worry! In this article, we’ll tell you exactly how to get unbanned from Bumble.

Below, we discuss why Bumble blocks accounts, how to avoid Bumble suspensions, and if you can get around geographic Bumble restrictions.

How to Get Unbanned from Bumble: Four Ways to Get Unbanned

We’ll be honest right off the bat: it’s often not easy to get unbanned from Bumble. The process isn’t as streamlined as on other apps, either.

There are three methods you can try to get unbanned from Bumble: contacting the Bumble support team to request a review of your ban, creating a new account, and changing your IP address and GPS location. We’ll discuss these methods below.

Note:

Bumble does not give refunds for banned premium accounts. As such, when Bumble bans you, you lose access to paid Bumble features and subscriptions. You also lose any matches you had prior to the ban. The methods below don’t restore your purchases or your previous matches, except for getting your appeal approved.

1. Appeal your Bumble app ban

A Bumble ban appeal only makes sense if you’re sure your Bumble account ban was in error. Bumble is very strict when it comes to enforcing its community guidelines, so if you violated said guidelines, then this method is not going to work.

However, if you strongly believe that your Bumble ban is a mistake, then it’s worth it to contact Bumble and make an appeal.

How to file an appeal for a Bumble ban

Bumble has no formal process to appeal bans. However, it does state that you’re “welcome to reach out to [its] support team” if you believe Bumble blocked you unjustly.

Here are the steps to contact Bumble support and file an appeal to get unbanned from Bumble:

  1. Visit Bumble’s contact form.
  2. During step 1, choose the reason you’re contacting Bumble customer support. We recommend selecting “See why I was blocked.”
  3. Fill out your name and email address.
  4. Choose the version of Bumble you were using (Date, BFF, or Bizz) and on which platform (Android, iOS, or web).
  5. In step 2, describe why your Bumble ban is unjust. Describe the reason and what happened in detail. Some reasons that Bumble might consider to be valid include: getting hacked, getting reported unjustly as a prank or as revenge, or your profile getting mistaken as an advertisement.
  6. If you want to, you can attach a screenshot or a document to support your case. We recommend doing so, as submitting proof can make your case stronger.
  7. Submit the appeal by clicking “Send message.”

Afterward, you need to wait until you receive word from Bumble regarding your ban. They’ll send their decision to the email address you provided in the form.

2. Create a new Bumble account

Creating a new Bumble account requires a Facebook account, Apple ID, or a phone number to sign up for the service.

Since Bumble has already flagged your information, you will need a new Facebook account or phone number to create a Bumble account. Similarly, Bumble may also recognize you if you use the same payment method as your old blocked Bumble account.

If Bumble banned you without a good reason and your appeal is unsuccessful, creating a new account could be an option. However, note that Bumble disallows creating a new account after they ban you. As such, you risk getting another ban.

Some Reddit users have even shared stories suggesting that Bumble uses facial recognition software to detect profiles created to circumvent a ban. If this is true, it could be even more challenging to create a new account.

3. Change your device ID

If creating a new Bumble account didn’t work, then Bumble may have blocked your device ID.

Many dating apps, such as Tinder, Hinge, and Grindr, block users’ device IDs in order to keep them from creating new accounts. Bumble mentions in its privacy policy that it collects theunique device identifier” of anyone who uses its platform for marketing purposes.

If you suspect Bumble is banning you based on your device ID, follow the steps below.

Warning:

The methods below for assigning a new ID to your device involve performing a factory reset. Before doing a factory reset, you should always make sure to back up all of the data you want to keep as your phone will be wiped clean!

Change your device ID on Android

  1. Visit your Settings app and select “General Management.”
  2. Choose “Reset” and then “Factory Data Reset.”
  3. Select “Erase All Data.”

Change your device ID on iOS

  1. Visit Settings.
  2. Choose “General.”
  3. Find and select “Reset.”
  4. Choose “Reset All Contents and Settings.”

Bumble may still recognize you because of the data saved in your iCloud. To delete data in your cloud, do the following:

  1. Visit Settings.
  2. Select “Apple ID” and then pick “iCloud.”
  3. Click on “Manage Storage.”
  4. Select Bumble and delete all your data.

4. Change your IP address and GPS location

If you tried making an account with completely new information but Bumble banned you again regardless, then Bumble might have banned your IP address. You can try and circumvent this ban by using a VPN to change your IP address.

A VPN can change your IP address by connecting you to one of its servers. Subsequently, your real IP address remains hidden and the server’s IP becomes your public IP address.

However, In order to pull this off, it’s likely you’ll also need to change your GPS location. All IP addresses reflect a real geographic location. Since you need to enable GPS tracking to use Bumble, the app might notice if your GPS location differs from the location your IP suggests.

For this purpose, we strongly recommend Surfshark as the tool for this job. Surfshark is an excellent cheap VPN that offers a GPS override function and more than 3,000 servers in 100 countries. If used successfully, Bumble won’t recognize your IP address or your GPS location, which may allow you to create and use a new account.

When we tested Surfshark with Bumble, we successfully accessed the app. However, we only saw profiles from our real location, not from where the VPN server was located. We connected to a server in Miami, Florida but only saw profiles from our physical location in the Netherlands.

Why Does Bumble Ban Users?

You might ask yourself: why does Bumble ban users in the first place? Bumble lists six main reasons:

Infographic showing why does Bumble ban users
  • Commercial activity, or anything to do with selling or advertising goods or services, such as escort or adult entertainment services, or asking for financial support
  • Rude or disrespectful behavior, such as sexual harassment, body shaming, hate speech, misogyny, and bullying
  • Self-promotion, such as excessively promoting your social media accounts
  • Spam, such as sending the same message to all your matches
  • Illegal activity, such as offering drugs or distributing copyrighted content
  • Deleting and recreating your account with a high frequency

How to Prevent Getting Banned by Bumble

As we’ve seen above, there are plenty of reasons for which Bumble could ban you. Below you’ll find our tips to prevent Bumble bans. Use these tips in conjunction with the causes for Bumble bans mentioned above.

  • Be mindful of your language when chatting and see if it conflicts, even if unintentionally and subtly, with Bumble’s community guidelines. For instance, a Reddit user found himself banned for mentioning his small business to a match, even though they were only making small talk.
  • Don’t overdo social media mentions. It’s fine to include one or two social media handles, but don’t overdo it. Also, make sure you include other text in your bio.
  • Secure your account with a strong password so you can avoid getting hacked. If a malicious actor gets a hold of your account, they may get your account banned on purpose as a prank or as revenge.
  • Use a solid VPN, such as Surfshark, to protect your IP address from being logged by Bumble. This should prevent Bumble from banning you on an IP level.

How to Unblock Bumble in Restricted Countries

Location pin, broken padlock

In some countries, a “Bumble ban” doesn’t mean you were banned from Bumble. Instead, it means Bumble is unavailable in your country.

For instance, amid the Russian invasion of eastern and southern Ukraine, Bumble discontinued its operations in Russia and Belarus. As such, users in these countries can no longer download Bumble from the Play Store or the App Store.

If you want to use Bumble in a country where it’s unavailable, you can use a VPN such as Surfshark:

  1. Open Surfshark and log in with your account.
  2. Connect to a VPN server in a country where Bumble is available.
  3. Create a new Play Store account.
  4. Download the Bumble application.

Note, however, that it’s unknown what other measures Bumble has taken to prevent geographically restricted users.

Moreover, even if you manage to download the app in a blocked country, you might not get lots of matches. Bumble is probably not too popular in these countries.

Using Bumble Travel in restricted countries

Using a VPN alone doesn’t show profiles in a different location. For example, we tried connecting to a VPN server in Miami while we were physically in the Netherlands. Sadly, we didn’t come across any US profiles.

Fortunately, there is a way browse profiles from a different country and region: Bumble Travel. This is a Bumble premium feature that allows you to swipe in a region that’s different from where you physically are. You can enable Bumble’s travel feature (if you have a premium subscription) by going to settings and tapping on “Travel.”

Final Thoughts: How to Get Unbanned From Bumble

Bumble is strict in enforcing its community guidelines, and getting a ban reversed is often not easy. Fortunately, there are still four steps you can try to get unbanned from Bumble:

  1. Contact Bumble support and explain why you don’t deserve a Bumble ban.
  2. Create a new Bumble account.
  3. Change your device ID (after backing up your data).
  4. Change your IP address and GPS location using a good VPN, like one of our top 5 VPN recommendations.

We recommend using a VPN that comes with a GPS spoofer. This should make it less likely for Bumble to use an IP ban to prevent you from creating a new account. Our top pick is Surfshark, thanks to its thousands of servers, geo-spoofer, incredibly low cost, and 30-day money-back guarantee.

Hi! I am also having problems getting my account unbanned, I got a new phone number and registered with a VPN and when I go make an account and get the code to my phone number it doesn’t give me the code so I choose the option of getting a phone call, when I do that and put it in it says I’m blocked, I got a new Apple ID and followed the steps please help! Thanks

    • Priscilla Sherman

      Hi TJ,
That is really inconvenient. Did you try to log in with your original account first, or did you make one from scratch? If you tried to log in with your old account first, Bumble might already have connected that info to this device, too, which could be the cause of the issues.

Hi Nathan. I followed all the steps above- reset my iPhone to factory settings and used VPN which was set to my location New York, got new phone number (but used old iphone), got 6 digit code and then when Bumble asks me my name which I typed- the arrow in the lower right corner is disabled one I press it to finish completing new profile. Why is it happening? What went wrong? Does Bumble somehow see my Apple ID when I download the app? I did not upload any pictures... I stops me once I put my name. Any other suggestions?

    • Priscilla Sherman

      Hi Olga,
We're very sorry to hear about the issue you're experiencing. The fact you're unable to continue creating your profile could indeed mean Bumble is recognizing you based on your Apple ID, as you suggested. There could also be an error because of the VPN you're using. In our article, we suggest making sure your GPS location matches the location linked to your IP address (New York, in this case) with a GPS spoofer or using Surfshark's built-in GPS tool. Have you tried this? Also, consider creating a new Apple ID and trying again. Please let us know if you have any luck after trying the above. Lastly, although somewhat unlikely, there could simply be an issue with the app. Therefore, please also try to re-install Bumble or check if there's an update you've missed.
