1. Surfshark One: The Best Internet Security Suite

A screenshot of Surfshark One's data breach monitoring Alert feature

What We Like

  • Perfect for families due to unlimited connections
  • Cost-effective service
  • In-built breach detection
  • Secure browsing with no ads
  • High-level VPN for more online freedom and security

What We Don't Like

  • Lacks a password manager and firewall

The Surfshark One security suite offers a great combination of speed and security, making it our absolute number 1 when it comes to the best internet security software. It offers a VPN, antivirus, search, and alert tool, all combined in one user-friendly interface. We at VPNOverview use it daily!

Antivirus: When we tested Surfshark’s relatively new antivirus solution, we liked its potential. Scans take a while, but Surfshark did not use much CPU or memory space. We hope that Surfshark will soon include a firewall in its software to up the antivirus’ utility even more. You can read more of our thoughts in our Surfshark Antivirus review.

VPN: Surshark One’s VPN is the key offering of the bundle. It uses advanced encryption protocols, including OpenVPN and WireGuard, to secure your browsing and prevent leaks without reducing speed. The VPN even allows unlimited devices on one account: perfect for families and small businesses! Read more in our full Surfshark VPN review.

Screenshot of Surfshark Antivirus, Quick scan

Additional features: In addition to the VPN, you get other advanced tools such as CleanWeb, an ad blocker that prevents online threats and malware. Parental controls and a password manager are absent, while these features are often found in other internet security software. However, Surfshark is known for its quick growth and improvements, so we are curious to see what the future will bring.

Usability: Surfshark’s attention to detail when designing its apps is evident. The all-in-one app lets you manage your VPN, ad blocker, and antivirus together. Setting up alters for data breach scans is also a simple process. Any issues that do come up when using Surfshark One can be resolved by contacting their excellent customer support team, which is available 24/7 through a live chat.

If you ask us, Surfshark One is the best choice for anyone looking for a good cybersecurity suite.

If you’re unsure whether or not you’d like to purchase Surfshark One, you can always use their 30-day money-back guarantee to try it out for a month, risk-free!

2. NordVPN Complete: The Best Security Suite With a Password Manager

Screenshot of NordVPN, personal dashboard

What We Like

  • Takes great care of your online privacy
  • Protects from online malware, trackers, and hackers
  • Password manager and cloud storage included
  • Understandable apps that are easy to work with

What We Don't Like

  • Antivirus options are limited
  • Separate apps for NordPass and NordLocker

NordVPN Complete package offers one of our all-time favorite VPNs, malware protection, a password manager, an ad blocker, and more. We’ve tested all of these tools professionally and are always impressed with the high level of security and privacy Nord offers.

Antivirus: While Nord’s Threat Protection feature worked seamlessly for us, the one drawback (and the reason it ended up in second place) is that it isn’t a fully-fledged antivirus program, so it cannot spot or remove existing viruses or malware from your device. Instead, it acts more like a firewall and prevents harmful files from being downloaded.

VPN: Like with Surfshark One, Nord’s VPN service is definitely its crowning piece. We tested its abilities in our NordVPN review and found that it kept our actual location or IP address perfectly safe while barely affecting our browsing speed, making it the perfect VPN for web protection.

Personal dashboard of NordPass

Additional features: With NordPass’s password manager, we no longer have to think up passwords for each new account we create. NordPass allows us to log in with just one click without compromising our safety. Besides that, the data breach scanner alerts us if our email information or other contact details have appeared in an online data leak.

Usability: Whether you’re a beginning user or an experienced techie, NordVPN Complete offers the perfect mix of a user-friendly app and customization opportunities. A slight downside is that some of Nord’s tools, like NordPass, come with a separate app, so you’ll have to install multiple programs.

Want to try it out first? We recommend taking advantage of Nord’s 30-day money-back guarantee so you can get the full experience before committing.

3. Bitdefender Total Security: The Best Security Suite With Robust Antivirus Protection

Screenshot of Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac, dashboard

What We Like

  • All-round package with top-notch antivirus, especially for ransomware
  • One app hosts all software
  • Easy to use tools for beginners

What We Don't Like

  • Lacks a password manager
  • VPN comes with a data limit that doesn't guarantee full-time protection
  • No 24/7 live chat

Bitdefender offers one of the most complete and best security software packages around. Think top-notch malware protection, a good VPN, and several other nifty tools that enhance security and privacy.

Antivirus: Multiple people on our VPNOverview team use Bitdefender to keep them safe from viruses and other malware they encounter while testing and researching. Our Bitdefender tests show minimal impact on system performance, so you can enjoy optimal protection without sacrificing speed.

VPN: We typically don’t expect VPNs developed by antivirus providers to be great, but Bitdefender surprised us with its fast and secure VPN. Our connection speeds remained consistent across servers and it did not leak our IP address or DNS details during testing for our full Bitdefender VPN review. Unfortunately, the Total Security package only includes 200MB of data/day, which you willl run out of quickly.

Screenshot of Bitdefender, ransomware protection settings

Additional features: The Total Security suite contains a plethora of internet security features, such as a Wi-Fi scanner, parental control, and webcam protection. Additionally, it also boasts tools that help you get the best out of your device’s performance, including different power profiles for games and movies as well as an optimizer. However, Bitdefender Total Security lacks a password manager – a feature common among other security suites, like NordVPN Complete.

Usability: We love Bitdefender’s interface. All features are neatly sorted into different categories, so you can easily customize your experience. That’s why we recommend Bitdefender Total Security for less-experienced users. A small drawback, however, is that it doesn’t have a 24/7 live chat, which Surfshark and NordVPN do.

4. Norton 360 Standard: The Best Internet Security Suite With Countless Tools

What We Like

  • Effective malware protection
  • Comprehensive security suite for Windows and Mac
  • Intuitive interface and apps

What We Don't Like

  • Based in a 5 Eyes country
  • No file shredding

It’s impossible to talk about the best security suites without mentioning Norton 360. Out of all entries on this list, Norton offers the most complete security software. It safeguards you against malware, spyware, and hackers; it comes with a password manager to help keep your passwords safe; and it offers a dark web monitor that will notify you if any of your data (like your email) has been leaked on the dark web.

Antivirus: During our Norton 360 tests, we found that Norton 360 antivirus works just as well on macOS as it does on Windows, which puts it a notch above competitors like McAfee. With a 100% virus detection rate in recent independent tests, you can count on Norton to protect you.

Norton Antivirus Scan Options

VPN: While Norton Secure VPN isn’t our absolute favorite, it is still pretty good. It offers unlimited bandwidth with access to servers in 30 countries. Our Norton Secure VPN review shows that the servers were pretty fast, though its IPv6 leak protection is lacking.

Additional features: Norton’s Smart Firewall feature worked like a charm when we used it with our MacBook Pro. It kept an eye on our network traffic and flagged any suspicious files we came across. The password manager and cloud backup services are easy to set up from the Norton web dashboard.

Usability: You can manage the antivirus and VPN with Norton’s app on Mac and Windows. However, other services, such as the password manager and cloud backup can only be accessed using the online dashboard. This makes the user experience a little tedious, especially when compared to all-in-one apps like Surfshark One.

Norton 360’s quality is undeniable. It may not be the most affordable or private security suite, but it provides top-notch security and real-time threat protection for your devices.

5. Avira Prime: All-in-One Suite for Security and Utility

Screenshot of Avira, Scan selection

What We Like

  • Accurate real-time malware detection
  • Web add-on for browser safety
  • Utility tune up and file cleaning features

What We Don't Like

  • Renewal subscription plans can be expensive
  • Antivirus protection varies across devices

If you own a small business, Avira Prime could be perfect for you, as you can use it on up to 25 devices and it fulfills all your antivirus, VPN, and password managing needs.

Antivirus: Avira Antivirus offers great security software, with near-perfect scores for blocking malware across the board. On top of that, it doesn’t have many false positives, meaning Avira protects your device well without accidentally mistaking your regular files for viruses. Want to learn more about this? You can read our full Avira Antivirus review for all the details on its excellent protection.

VPN: Avira’s Phantom VPN has unlimited bandwidth and boasts quite impressive speeds, but it unfortunately won’t help you unblock much streaming content. If you just want a VPN to harbor your privacy, Avira Phantom VPN is a good solution.

Screenshot of Avira, Privacy section

Additional features: Avira really excels when it comes to device management and fine-tuning. Its file shredder is useful for securely disposing of files, while its startup manager simplifies the selection of apps that launch when you log into your device. However, not all other Avira Prime features are the same across operating systems. For example, on Windows, there is a PC cleaner, while Mac users get an automatic cookie cleaner, startup manager, and junk cleaner.

Usability: Avira Prime’s all-in-app is one of the best we’ve used. Configuring its different tools is really straightforward. However, one area where Avira is currently lacking is live customer support. When we approached them, agents took a long time to reply.

All in all, Avira Prime offers a solid package that is especially great for small businesses as well as anyone looking for simple yet effective real-time protection.

6. Trend Micro Premium Security: Great Security Software for Identity Management

Screenshot of TrendMicro website homepage, May 2023

What We Like

  • Protection against malware and other online threats
  • Pay Guard prevents online financial scams
  • AI-based malware detection

What We Don't Like

  • Its interface is not very user-friendly
  • Low VPN speeds

Trend Micro offers several great security features that aren’t provided by even the best security suites on the market, including identity theft protection and secure online banking. In fact, the Trend Micro Premium Security software even includes ID theft restoration and fraud insurance up to $1 million!

Antivirus: Trend Micro offers an effective antivirus solution that scans for and blocks threats before they can affect your devices. It also safeguards against online scans and uses cloud-based AI to detect new forms of malware. However, the software tended to slow down the performance of our device during full scans.

VPN: Although we like the addition of Trend Micro’s VPN Proxy One Pro, you shouldn’t expect too much from this basic VPN. It has a small server network, and its speeds were not the best.

Screenshot of TrendMicro, quick scan in progress

Additional features: We were impressed with Trend Micro’s data monitoring feature, as it covers five bank accounts and 10 credit cards. On top of that, its social media privacy checker monitors your social networks to identify threats and privacy risks – a unique and useful addition.

Usability: The Trend Micro software was straightforward to install, but we found it pretty overwhelming to use due to the sheer number of options. On the plus side, Trend Micro’s customer support is easily available 24/7 through live chat, email, phone, and even on Telegram!

While it isn’t the best security suite, Trend Micro Premium Security undeniably offers a good deal. Click the button below to visit the Trend Micro website and access this extensive range of security features.

You can even get a 30-day free trial before committing to Trend Micro!

7. TotalAV Total Security: The Best Security Suite for Protection Across Devices

Screenshot of TotalAV, Internet security features descriptions

What We Like

  • Effective protection against phishing attacks
  • Includes a disk and browser cleaner
  • Tools to help tune-up and speed up your devices

What We Don't Like

  • Based in the UK (5 Eyes Country)
  • May store your IP address and device identifier information

TotalAV is one of the newer players in the market, but has already managed to make a name for itself in a short time. Experts are impressed by its near-perfect malware detection, and that includes us.

Antivirus: With TotalAV, you’ll be protected against phishing scams and ransomware attacks. On top of that, its effective ad blocker prevents malicious (and just plain annoying) ads from reaching your device. While conducting our TotalAV review, Total Security worked smoothly without draining our system resources.

Screenshot of TrotalAV, full scan in progress

VPN: TotalAV Total Security’s built-in VPN is called Safe Browsing VPN, and it gave a pretty decent performance. You’ll get unlimited data and reliable connections. The speeds we got while testing were good enough for daily browsing, although we wouldn’t recommend using it for unblocking.

Additional features: We especially liked TotalAV’s disk cleaner feature, as it helps you delete junk files and folders, making your computer faster in the blink of an eye. Its dark web monitoring and social media privacy features also help you remain in control of your personal data, preventing leaks and identity theft.

Usability: TotalAV offers an all-in-one dashboard for its VPN, antivirus, and password manager. We found the app easy to use and would recommend it for users of all expertise. If you do happen to run into problems using any of TotalAV’s security features, you can contact customer support directly through your account dashboard.

If you want to test the TotalAV software but are worried about committing, the company offers a 30-day money-back guarantee when you sign up for any annual plan, so you can use it completely risk-free. And if you decide you’re happy with the service, it still won’t cost you much: you can already get a subscription for $19.

8. Kaspersky Premium: The Best Security Software for Parental Control

Screenshot of Kaspersky website home page with logo in the right bottom corner

What We Like

  • Day-zero threat detection
  • Great parental controls
  • Identity and payment protection

What We Don't Like

  • Based in Russia
  • Concerns with user data protection

Kaspersky has long been one of the most popular antivirus software providers on the market. In the same vein, its internet security suite, which includes online payment protection, an unlimited VPN, identity protection, performance optimization tools, and top-of-the-line parental control software earns a place on our list.

Antivirus: In terms of antivirus software, Kaspersky’s real-time protection is extremely effective. We attempted downloading test files disguised as malware, and Kaspersky sent us a notification straight away. It also offers robust ransomware protection, keeping your devices from the increasingly popular cybercrime.

VPN: Kaspersky’s VPN Secure Connection is a solid but not exceptional VPN, especially when compared to NordVPN or Surfshark. We got stable speeds across most of its 2000 servers. Unfortunately, the company’s alleged ties with the Russian government raise some privacy concerns, with the EU and USA flagging the company as “suspicious.”

Additional features: The Premium bundle includes a free one-year subscription to Kaspersky Safe Kids, which allows parents to set internet filters, screen time restrictions, and social media limitations. It also features a password manager and performance optimization tools, making it a complete internet security suite.

Screenshot of Kaspersky Safe Kids, My Kids portal overview

Usability: Kaspersky uses a fairly standard and simple interface across its apps, though some settings can be difficult to access. Unfortunately, customer support is not always easy to contact, which means that you’ll have to rely on Kaspersky’s FAQs and guides to troubleshoot any problems.

Although Kaspersky Premium didn’t make it to the very top of our list of best cybersecurity suites, it still offers an impressive set of features. For $81.99/year, you can get a plan for up to 10 devices, so one tool will work on all your (and your kids’) devices. Check out the best offers on Kaspersky Premium by clicking the button below.

9. McAfee Total Protection: Internet Security Suite That Covers the Basics

Screenshot of McAfee app, Dashboard

What We Like

  • Includes essential security features at an affordable price
  • Scam protection AI alerts

What We Don't Like

  • VPN server network is rather small
  • Known to affect device performance

McAfee is another well-known antivirus provider that has expanded into the overall cybersecurity realm. It provides useful security features, like a firewall and web protection, and works particularly well for Windows users.

Antivirus: When we tested its antivirus options for our McAfee review, the antivirus detected and removed any potential malware effectively. However, some of its features are quite basic, without any advanced settings, which is why we wouldn’t recommend it to more seasoned security suite users. We also discovered that its firewall doesn’t work well on macOS.

VPN: As is often the case with VPNs by antivirus providers, McAfee’s Safe Connect VPN offers minimal protection. It doesn’t have the same security features as more developed VPNs and offers a limited server network with average speeds. Its logging of IP addresses and search history also raises major privacy concerns.

Additional features: McAfee’s File Shredder is another useful tool that helps maintain your privacy. We used it to destroy our old files safely and were pleasantly surprised with how quick and effective it was. Other useful features include a tracker blocker to preserve your privacy and a password manager and identity monitoring service.

Screenshot of McAfee app, File Shredder

Usability: We quite liked McAfee’s intuitive desktop and mobile applications. Given the lack of advanced settings, the interface is easy to navigate for all kinds of users. On the downside, like Kaspersky, their customer staff can be slow to respond and wasn’t able to resolve all our queries, despite their best efforts.

McAfee’s combination of strong antivirus solutions and a user-friendly interface makes it a worthy addition to our list, especially at $39.99/month. If you’d like to try it out, simply click the button below to head straight to McAfee’s website.

10. Proton Unlimited: The Best Security Suite With a Free Option

A screenshot of the Proton Ultimate security suite's dashboard

What We Like

  • Offers encrypted file storage, email, and calendar
  • Completely free option available
  • Covers a wide range of devices

What We Don't Like

  • No protection against malware or viruses
  • Proton Mail and Proton Drive can be challenging to set up

When we think security, we think Proton. The best part of this provider is that it offers a basic security suite with a VPN (Proton VPN), secure email (Proton Mail), cloud storage (Proton Drive), and a private calendar (Proton Calendar), all completely for free.

Antivirus: The major thing missing for Proton Unlimited users is an antivirus solution. We don’t know if this is in the cards for Proton anytime soon, but we sure hope it is! For now, we’d advise you to use a free antivirus option alongside your Proton package to make sure you’re fully protected online.

VPN: Proton VPN has made quite the name for itself. Both the free and paid services use advanced protocols, including OpenVPN, to secure user data online. Moreover, neither version has bandwidth limitations, meaning you can download files or watch movies while protected by the VPN.

Screenshot of Proton VPN, kill switch

Additional features: Most free services give you questionable security and bogus tools, but Proton is truly different. With a rock-solid privacy policy and user-friendly features, it offers everything you need for a safe internet experience. Whether it’s your emails, calendar, files, or the sites you visit, you can count on Proton to encrypt and protect your data.

Usability: In general, Proton’s services are incredibly easy to install and use, and customer support is excellent. However, getting encrypted mail to work on Proton Mail can be slightly challenging. Luckily, you can contact their team through form or email. Proton’s support is incredibly helpful and quick to respond!

All in all, Proton Unlimited is a great option for those looking for more unique features, like secure email and cloud storage, in one package. Try it out for free!

How We Chose the Best Security Suites

In picking the best internet security software, we paid close attention to different aspects of each bundle, including range of features, performance, customer support, and price. Here’s a breakdown of each:

An infographic explaining how we chose the best security software
  • VPN and antivirus performance: A good VPN and antivirus form the cornerstone of reliable internet security. Hence, we paid especially close attention to the ability of VPNs and antivirus software to encrypt user data and detect and remove online threats.
  • Additional security features: Given the wide range of cyber threats today, the best security software must include a range of features, such as identity theft monitoring and parental controls. As a result, we ranked security suites with a wide range of features higher than others.
  • User interface and design: With so many different tools and apps in security suites, a slick and intuitive interface is critical to a good security package. We considered whether different tools and features could be managed from one app or required the installation of different ones.
  • Customer support: Having responsive and knowledgeable customer support ensures that users can quickly resolve any difficulty they face.
  • Price: while not the sole criterion, price was an important consideration for us when creating this list. We focused on including security suites that could deliver maximum protection at a reasonable price.

Final Thoughts: What’s the Best Internet Security Suite?

Internet security suites are software packages that contain multiple tools to ensure your online security. Typically, they include antivirus protection, a VPN, and other features like password management and parental controls.

After careful evaluation, we recommend Surfshark One as the best internet security suite, since it includes trustworthy antivirus software, a useful data breach manager, and a simple yet effective ad blocker. On top of that, of course, it has one of our absolute favorite fast and secure VPNs. Its only downside is that it lacks a password manager.

If you want an internet security suite with robust antivirus protection, check out Bitdefender Total Security. Looking for a package that includes a password manager? Go for NordVPN Complete.

The Best Security Suites: Frequently Asked Questions

Got a question about the best security suites? We’ve got you covered. Check out the FAQ below and click or tap on a question to view the answer.

What is an internet security suite?

An internet security suite is a software package that offers multiple internet security and privacy solutions in one. They might, for example, include an antivirus app, a VPN, and a password manager. Some of the best security suites are Surfshark One, NordVPN Complete, and Bitdefender Total Security.

Who is the best internet security provider?

There are many great internet security providers that offer tools to help protect you online. Our top recommendation is Surfshark One, which provides reliable protection with its VPN, online security with its antivirus software, and additional tools like a data breach manager and adblocker.

Which is the best internet security suite for PC?

Bitdefender Internet Security is a great all-in-one security solution specifically created for PC. It includes protection against all kinds of threats such as malware, ransomware, phishing, and more, plus a limited version of Bitdefender VPN for secure browsing. You can read all about it in our Bitdefender review.

Do I need a password manager if I use a VPN?

Yes, you need a password manager when you use a VPN. Both tools are very effective, but serve entirely different purposes:

  • A password manager securely stores your passwords in one place so you can easily access them.
  • A VPN encrypts your online traffic and helps you become more anonymous online.

If you’re looking for an all-in-one solution, we recommend NordVPN complete. It offers both a great VPN (NordVPN) and a password manager (NordPass) and is one of our top 3 best cybersecurity suites.

Is McAfee or Norton VPN better?

After extensive testing, we recommend Norton’s Secure VPN over McAfee, because it is more reliable and fast across all devices. However, if privacy is your priority, we recommend choosing a top VPN provider like Surfshark or NordVPN, since they do not collect any user data.
