Short on time? Follow these steps to watch the Copa América in no-time!
Streaming services often block Copa América matches and other content outside specific countries, because of broadcasting rights issues. If you’re not in the right country, because of work or holidays, you just might miss the match! Fortunately, there’s a simple solution to prevent this: using a VPN.
A VPN can make it seem like you are in another country by changing your IP address. This way your streaming service will think you’re in “the right” country and will give you access to Copa América matches and other content. If you want to use this method to watch the Copa América, wherever you are, all you have to do is follow the four simple steps below.
Get a subscription with a good VPN. We recommend NordVPN, since this VPN is very affordable, has good streaming speeds and is great at unblocking streaming content.
Download and install your chosen VPN on the device you’ll use to stream the Copa América. To get some help with this for NordVPN, read our NordVPN review.
Open the NordVPN app and connect to the right server. For instance, if you use the Fox Sports App to watch the Copa, you can connect to a Mexican, Argentinian or Brazilian server. This app works in those three countries.
Go to your streaming service, SporTV or the Fox Sports App for example, log in and navigate to the Copa América (live) stream you want to watch.
If you need some more help, just check out the more in-depth guides in this article. These guides show you, step-by-step, how to watch the Copa América abroad on Globo’s SporTV or with the Fox Sports app.
Normally, soccer fans would be getting ready for Copa América 2023 in the next few months, but the oldest international soccer tournament in the world was moved to 2024 to coincide with Euros 2024. The Copa América 2024 is scheduled for June/July 2024. The location for the tournament has not been decided to date.
But what if you are living abroad or on holiday and can and cannot catch the matches? Or what if you are a huge soccer fan living in the US or the United Kingdom, but really want to view this year’s Copa América? Read the rest of this article to find out how you can watch the Copa América, no matter where you are.
Why watching the Copa América abroad can be difficult or impossible
In an ideal world, we would be able to watch anything we want, wherever we are. Unfortunately, this is often not the case. Many broadcasters and streaming services are required to block certain content outside their country. This is part of and depends on the deal they struck to obtain the broadcasting rights for the movie, show, sporting event, etc. For example, if you go to Globo’s SporTV, where many Copa América matches are transmitted live, you’ll find out that many (sports) videos are only available if you’re in Brazil. The same goes for the Fox Sports app, another popular way to watch the Copa América live for many football fans from South America and beyond. After all, the Fox Sports app is only available in Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil.
The last thing you want is to be hit by such a geo-restriction during the Copa! Just imagine you’re abroad for holidays or work and you find out you can’t watch any Copa matches, because your streaming service blocks these when you’re in the “wrong” region! Fortunately, there is a very easy way to prevent this happening: using a VPN. By using a VPN, you can watch any content you want, such as the Copa América, wherever you are. And you know what’s the best part? Watching the Copa with a VPN is quick and easy. Nevertheless, if you don’t know how this works, don’t worry! Because below we included two easy, step-by-step guides for you to watch the Copa América with a VPN, wherever you are. The first guide is for people who want to use Globo’s SporTV, while the second is for Fox Sports App users.

Note: Please be aware you do need to have access to the Fox Sports app to use the above method.
Copa América stream blocked by “VPN block”
These days a lot of streaming services employ something we like to call “VPN blocks”. This means that many streaming websites and apps block VPN users from accessing their content. They usually do this the following way: they will notice large amounts of traffic to their website from one IP-address. This is because usually VPN servers and their IP-addresses are shared by large numbers of users. Subsequently, they will block this IP address, blocking all users with that IP address from accessing their content.
Streaming services might change their policies on blocking VPNs without notice and you never know which servers will be blocked. This is why it’s good to know how to get around VPN blocks, should you experience one. After all, of course you don’t want to successfully set up a VPN connection to watch the Copa América abroad, only to be denied access to the streaming service because of a VPN block.
Getting around VPN blocks with NordVPN – 3 tips
NordVPN offers a few great features to get around VPN blocks. First of all, NordVPN has a huge number of servers, more than 5400. VPN blocks always involve blocking specific servers. So, if you notice you can’t watch your match on the server you’re currently on, you can first try another one. NordVPN has multiple servers in many countries to choose from. This is by far the easiest solution you can try.
The second “VPN block unblock solution” NordVPN offers, is using a dedicated IP address. For an additional fee, NordVPN can provide you with this special kind of IP address which, unlike a regular VPN IP, is only used by you. Because a dedicated IP address is only used by you, it is much harder for a streaming service to detect you’re using a VPN with such an IP address. As such, getting a dedicated IP with NordVPN is the best way to ensure you won’t be blocked by SporTV, the Fox Sports App or another streaming service when you’re trying to watch the Copa América.
Lastly, NordVPN also offers something called obfuscated servers, which are special servers which make it much harder for streaming services to detect you’re using a VPN. However, as of now, NordVPN only offers these special servers in a few selected countries, such as the United States and Canada. As such, this last feature is mainly useful for people who live in the US and have an ESPN+ subscription, for instance. If this applies to you, you can use one of Nord’s obfuscated servers in the U.S to watch the Copa América on ESPN+ abroad, should you be facing a VPN block. Please note, however, that obfuscated servers can slow down your connection and as such might not be great for streaming.
How does a VPN unblock Copa América matches
A VPN offers a few great advantages. One of these advantages is giving you more online freedom to watch whatever you want, wherever you are. This is because a good VPN usually has many, many servers all over the world. By connecting to a server in another country than the one you’re currently in, you’ll change your IP address to an IP from that other country. Many websites and apps use your IP to figure out where you are. This means you can make streaming services believe you are in a country where their service and the content you want to watch is available with a VPN!
Apart from allowing you to watch the Copa América wherever you are, a good VPN offers many more great advantages, such as giving you access to the U.S. version of Netflix. You can also watch other sports with the use of a VPN, such as the Olympics. If you want to learn more about the many advantages offered by a VPN, check out our article on this topic or this article.
Can’t I use a free VPN to watch the Copa América?
The above is a common question. However, we don’t recommend using a free VPN to stream the Copa América 2024, for a couple of reasons.
First of all, most free VPNs enforce data- and/or speed limits. This means that when you’ve used a certain amount of internet data, say 2 GB, you can’t use the service any longer and won’t be able to watch the rest of the game, if you’re watching a Copa match for example. Of course, this is the last thing you want. If there’s a speed limit, you’re often only able to reach quite slow speeds with a free VPN, which are not suitable for streaming. This might mean your video has to buffer constantly, completely ruining your viewing pleasure.
Secondly, even if you found a great free VPN that doesn’t enforce data or speed limits, such as ProtonVPN, you’ll likely still be dealing with a slow connection. This is because free VPNs usually offer way fewer servers than their paid counterparts. This means that their servers often get really crowded, slowing them down considerably.
It just so happens that the issues described above are usually worst for streamers. This means you should probably think twice before deciding to stream the Copa with a free VPN. Instead, we recommend you to look for a good cheap VPN. This leads us to the following.
Bonus tip – Surfshark: the best budget VPN to watch the Copa América
If you want to watch every Copa América match without breaking the bank, we wholeheartedly recommend Surfshark. Surfshark is one of the few super cheap premium VPNs, priced at only $1.99 a month for their cheapest subscription. It offers over a thousand stable, fast servers in 61 countries. Among these are servers in the United Kingdom, Chile, the United States, and Paraguay. This means that with Surfshark you can easily get around geo-restrictions in these countries and watch the Copa in Spanish, Portuguese or English, depending on your streaming service. On top of this, Surfshark is also a very safe and user-friendly VPN. In short, Surfshark is the right choice if you’re looking for a budget VPN to watch the Copa América 2021!

Another tip: IP addresses, which a VPN can alter, are used by many websites to determine your location. However, they are not the only way websites can find out where you are. Another popular way for websites to do so is by using cookies. One time when using Surfshark to access a video on Globo’s SporTV for example, a message popped up saying we were not in the right region (Brazil). This happened despite being connected to a Brazilian Surfshark server. One smart thing to try in these sorts of situations is to try to access the video in a new incognito window, so no cookies will be used to track you.
