How to Save Money on NBA League Pass

With pro basketball’s ever-growing global audience, the NBA has made its live streaming and on-demand platform, NBA League Pass, available in most countries. But each market is different. So while fans in France pay one price for the service, fans in Japan or Mexico pay a completely different price, or others stream the NBA games for free through various streaming sites.

Fortunately, NBA League Pass makes it easy enough to nab the cheapest prices from around the world. So instead of paying $15 for the NBA Playoffs and the Finals, you can connect to a server in South America and just pay $3.

Here’s what you’ll need:

1. CyberGhost VPN

Why CyberGhost VPN? Well, when we tested it, it was the only premium VPN capable of successfully pairing with NBA League Pass in its price range. CyberGhost has a network of more than 7,000 servers across 90+ countries, and we were able to pull up around 17 different NBA League Pass price ranges by connecting to different countries in its network.

Many VPNs use virtual servers. This means they’ll give you an IP address in a particular country, but servers aren’t physically located in that country. But CyberGhost has servers actually located within the borders of countries you’ll need to connect to. So bypassing georestrictions is nothing but net.

Next up, you’ll need NBA League Pass and a form of payment. NBA League Pass accepts credit cards, or you can pay through PayPal no matter what country you’re setting up the account in.

NBA League Pass has plans for following a single team, or you can sign up for a premium plan that covers every single game. You can also share the subscription with family or friends who are also fans, which can further reduce the cost per person.

NBA streamers can also try out the service the first week at no cost, as League Pass offers a 7-day free trial. If you don’t want to continue, just cancel before it expires.

It is important to note that using a VPN to bypass geographical restrictions or sharing your account with family may violate the terms and conditions of the service. Always review the terms and conditions of platforms before you agree to them to avoid service interruptions.

Best VPN for NBA League Pass

We tested several VPNs for NBA League Pass and found that the NBA’s Argentinian website is easiest to unblock with these three VPNs:

  1. CyberGhost
  2. Private Internet Access (PIA)
  3. ExpressVPN

Due to its speed, dependability, server network and price, we chose CyberGhost as the best choice for unlocking a lower price on League Pass. But if you’re already interested in one of the other VPN choices below, they’ll also get the job done.

1. CyberGhost: Best VPN for Argentinian NBA League Pass

CyberGhost has fast servers in Argentina that offer the speeds and dependability needed to stream NBA League Pass. When we tested CyberGhost with the NBA League Pass website from the United States and the Netherlands, it easily unlocked the Argentinian deal and kept our location hidden from third parties.

If you’re looking to unlock deals on subscriptions, CyberGhost is a great option. Many of their 7,000+ servers are actually located within the 90+ countries making up the network. Some virtual servers used by other VPN networks can be geo-tracked to their real location.

So while you might get an Argentinian IP address, the server itself could be located in the British Virgin Islands, and the website might recognize it as such. This isn’t the case with CyberGhost and the other VPNs mentioned here.

Why We Picked CyberGhost

CyberGhost is an easy-to-use VPN with an impressive interface for both desktop and mobile apps. It’s the perfect choice for anyone wanting to stream NBA games on any device without paying too much.

What We Like

  • Fast Argentinian servers for cheapest price
  • One of lowest-priced premium VPNs
  • 45-day money-back guarantee
  • Huge server network
  • Servers optimized for streaming

What We Don't

  • Tracks which devices are being used
  • Limited payment options

2. PIA: Excellent VPN for saving money on the NBA League Pass

PIA website homepage with logo

Private Internet Access (PIA) is another great VPN for NBA League Pass. Its extensive network has a mind-blowing 33,000+ servers spread across 84 countries, making it perfect for streaming basketball games from anywhere.

PIA easily allowed us to connect to the Argentinian NBA site to sign up without revealing our true location. One area where CyberGhost outperforms PIA is in speed, but PIA still has enough to support streaming NBA games from a great distance.

So if you’re in the middle of PIA’s 30-day free trial, or have been interested in trying it out, it’s another solution for saving money on NBA League Pass.

Why PIA is a Good Choice

Between its commitment to privacy and suitably fast server network, you can stream NBA games with PIA from anywhere. It’s pricing also keeps it on par with other premium VPNs.

What We Like

  • Reliable Argentinian servers
  • Affordable VPN
  • 30-day money-back guarantee
  • Good speeds
  • Easy to use

What We Don't

  • Speeds are inconsistent at times

3. ExpressVPN: Runs you up and down the court in a flash

Screenshot of ExpressVPN homepage website

ExpressVPN is a bit like the highest-paid NBA players. Its performance is elite, its speeds are unmatched, and it can get you to any country’s NBA League Pass price and streaming quicker than the rest. But like those big contract players, it’s up to you to decide if the value is worth the MVP status. It’s almost triple the cost of CyberGhost, even at its cheapest plan.

That being said, streaming NBA League Pass — or any other VPN-related activity — will essentially be seamless with ExpressVPN. Its 3,000+ server network in 94 countries has some of the fastest and most tightlysecured protocols available.

We haven’t heard many complaints from ExpressVPN users. While you can find a cheaper service, you certainly won’t find a better-performing one.

Why ExpressVPN is a Good Choice

ExpressVPN’s blistering fast, wellsecured server network will have you streaming NBA games worldwide seamlessly. Even streaming from the other side of the globe, you likely won’t be able to note a slowdown in your devices performance.

What We Like

  • Fast, reliable Argentinian servers
  • 30-day money-back guarantee
  • Fastest speeds available
  • One of easiest-to-use VPNs around
  • Seamless performance

What We Don't

  • Price tag

Prevent NBA League Pass Blackouts with a VPN

VPN shield icon with thumbs up around it, representing advantages of a VPN

Another reason to go with an international version of League Pass is to avoid blackout restrictions. Fans in the U.S. might not be able to watch certain games on the website when local or national providers have broadcasting rights to a game. The NBA website determines whether or not you can watch a certain game based on your IP address.

If your IP address gives away that you’re in an area where a TV channel has the right to broadcast the game, you won’t be able to stream it live. These blackouts, however, can be bypassed easily with a VPN by simply connecting to a server in a different part of the United States. For example, if you’re blocked from watching a local Los Angles Lakers game, just connect to a server in Miami, Florida.

Fortunately, these blackouts only apply to live streams of a game. Three hours after the game, you’ll be able to watch it on-demand on the NBA League Pass website, as long as you have a subscription.

Wrapping Up: Use a VPN to Reduce the NBA League Pass Price

It’s just another one of those bonuses that come when using this clutch cybersecurity tool. There really isn’t much heavy lifting when getting the best deal the NBA has to offer.

As a quick reminder how to do it:

  1. Get CyberGhost VPN
  2. Connect to a server in Argentina
  3. Then visit NBA League Pass and set up your subscription. It’s just $3 for the remainder of the season.

Saving some bucks with a VPN is a layup in this case!

If I buy league pass using a VPN, do I have to VPN to that country every time I want to watch games?

    • Taylor Moore VPNOverview.com

      Hey AP:

Thanks for your comment. You can buy NBA League Pass with a form of payment based in the country where you're signing up from. Also, if you're in a foreign country, you can sign up for League Pass using your home-based form of payment. Once you've got your account, you should be able to connect to any server you like -- as long as NBA League Pass is available there. NordVPN can always connect you to the closest optimized server.

You cannot use PayPal. Only a credit card issued in the foreign country. How do you get around this

    • Taylor Moore VPNOverview.com

Hey Joseph. Unfortunately, you are correct. It seems they've moved to only accepting local forms of payments. We'll be looking into another workaround, so check back!
