If you like YouTube but hate the seemingly endless ads, you’ve come to the right place! Not everyone is willing or able to spend over $10 a month on YouTube Premium. Luckily, there is an easy way to get a discount on YouTube Premium.
The cost of YouTube Premium is significantly less in some countries than in the U.S. In Turkey, for example, you can get a YouTube Premium subscription for as little as $1.19 per month. This means that you can change your location with a VPN and get a great deal on your YouTube Premium subscription. We’ve tested this, and it works.
In this article, we’ll show you how to get a YouTube Premium discount, wherever you are!
How to Get the YouTube Premium Discount
Important Notice:
YouTube has updated its credit card approval process, meaning you may need a credit card from the country you’re trying to use to sign up.
You can save on YouTube Premium by subscribing from a country with comparatively lower prices. Luckily, you don’t have to travel halfway across the world to the cheapest YouTube Premium country to make this work. Simply use a VPN!
A VPN allows you to spoof your location by changing your IP address. When you connect to a VPN server in a country with cheaper YouTube Premium subscription rates, like Turkey, YouTube will assume you’re in that country and show you lower prices.
Here’s how to get a YouTube Premium discount:
- Subscribe to a solid VPN. We used NordVPN to get a YouTube Premium discount.
- Download the VPN on your device.
- Open the VPN app and log in with your credentials.
- Connect to a server in a country with cheap YouTube Premium subscriptions. We used a Turkish server, and that worked for us. You’ll find a breakdown of the countries with the cheapest YouTube Premium prices below.
- Go to the official YouTube Premium page.
- Click the blue “Try it for free” button.
- In the field that pops up, fill out your payment information. Remember that you may be required to provide credit card details that correspond with the location you’ve chosen. When you’re done, click on “Buy.”
- Confirm that you want to get a YouTube Premium subscription.
- You now have a YouTube Premium account. Click on “Done” when you get a welcome message.
Tip:
If you don’t use a Turkish server, you might also need to fill out a billing address that corresponds with the VPN server location. You can use a fake address generator like Fakexy to create an address.
YouTube Premium discount with a VPN: Debunking myths and other relevant details
While using a VPN is a great way to get a YouTube Premium discount, there are some essential things to take note of:
- Your monthly subscription fee will be billed to your card in the currency of the country you selected. You may have to deal with currency conversion fees, depending on the card you’re using.
- You don’t always need a VPN to access YouTube Premium and watch videos. You only need one to sign up and get a YouTube Premium membership. However, if you log into your Premium account from a country that doesn’t have YouTube Premium, you’ll lose most of your Premium benefits for that session.
- This method also works with the YouTube Premium Family plan. However, you’ll need to invite everyone and have them accept before you start this process.
- You don’t need a VPN to get the YouTube Premium student discount. Also, there is no YouTube Premium military discount.
- YouTube could terminate your subscription for using a VPN to get a discount. While this is rare, it is not unheard of. You should be aware of this risk and accept this possibility before you click “Buy.”
YouTube Premium free trial offers
Another way to save on YouTube is by looking for longer YouTube Premium trial offers. YouTube usually offers a one-month trial for Premium, but sometimes you’ll find a special two, or even three-month free trial offer.
Want to find out if you can use a YouTube Premium free trial offer like this? Log in to your Google account, then go to YouTube Premium to see if you qualify. You should see one of the two pages below.
At the time of writing, most of the affordable countries for YouTube premium have advantageous sign-up deals. Turkey and Argentina both offered a two-month free trial with every new sign-up when we tested it. Romania offered a one-month free trial.
To get the offers, simply use NordVPN to connect to servers in said countries, and then go to the YouTube Premium sign-up page.
Note:
For a completely free experience, don’t forget to cancel your YouTube Premium subscription before the end of your free trial, or your subscription will automatically switch to a paid one.
What’s Included in a YouTube Premium Subscription?
Wondering if you should subscribe to YouTube Premium? Here’s what you get when you subscribe:
- Ad-free YouTube experience: YouTube eliminates all YouTube-distributed ads (the ones that play before your video starts). However, even with Premium, you will still see ads, commercials, and sponsored content embedded in videos and live streams.
- Downloads: With Premium, you can download videos for offline viewing.
- Background play: You can play YouTube videos while using other apps or while your phone is locked.
- Access to YouTube Originals: You get access to extra content, including movies, shows, and features you can’t stream elsewhere.
- YouTube Music Premium: You’ll be able to use this YouTube music streaming service, and you get no ads, can download and play offline, and listen to music when your device is locked.
If you use YouTube a lot, the paid subscription makes sense. However, if you use it occasionally and you’re subscribed to other music streaming services like Amazon Music or Spotify, some of YouTube Premium’s benefits may be of little value to you.

If any other country surpasses Turkey as the cheapest YouTube Premium country in the future, PIA still has you covered. It has one of the largest server networks of all the VPNs we’ve tested — more than 33,000 servers spread out over 84 countries. PIA has servers in countries that many VPNs don’t, like the Philippines. This allows you to easily find cheaper YouTube Premium subscriptions.
PIA’s speeds are suitable for watching videos on YouTube. It also works with the same strong VPN protocols as NordVPN and has great unblocking abilities. We’ve successfully used this VPN to unblock content on various streaming platforms, including Netflix, HBO Max, Disney Plus, and BBC iPlayer.

Don’t let Surfshark’s low price fool you. This provider is a high-quality VPN, with great speed test results. This means that you won’t have to worry about lag when watching your favorite video essays or cat videos on YouTube.
We tested Surfshark extensively to see whether it works with YouTube Premium. In our tests, we were able to access YouTube Premium deals in India, Indonesia, Serbia, South Africa, and Egypt. can I still use google pay with this method? I don't think you can use fake phone number for google pay, then this method cannot combine with google pay? thanks.
Hi Thomas! During a previous testing round, we were able to create a US-based Google account from abroad using a phone number service. Times change, however, so we'll look into testing this again in the near future. We'll update our article after.
any update? the above no longer works for Argentina
Hi Don! We recently retested the entire process, and it did work for us when trying to use a Turkish VPN server, to get the prices in Turkey. Let us know if that works for you (we've updated the article above so you can simply follow the steps in there again) and, if not, feel free to reach out to tell us what exact problem you're facing. Good luck!
Great Info. Thank You. How does one bypass the Can't verify your country?
We are currently looking into this and running some tests. We will update our article with the latest information as soon as possible!
I had heard of this hack before, never got around to trying it.. and then, sat with my son, saw the long adverts that he had to sit through.
With VPN, and an using a random address in Argentina (found a restaurant from Google maps) was able to sign-up despite using my UK Mastercard - usual bank confirmation processes, but didn't get any problems, although it's certainly a UK card, not Argentina.
Hi Karl! We're glad this method worked for you! It's not a guaranteed method at the moment, due to the restrictions, but sometimes you might get lucky. :)
I don’t know why mine is not working. I
already tried to use VPN to do the
subscription but it is still not working!
The system denied me! It still saying because I’m in a different country so I can’t join this family plan…
Hi Marco! Unfortunately, many people (including ourselves) have been experiencing these issues since YouTube Premium updated their credit card approval process. We're looking for a new solution, but that might take some time. Bear with us!
The payment screen is the issue with this, it gets denied every time. I've tried clearing my cache, using Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and my mobile browser. I've tried multiple Visas and Mastercards, a crypto card, manipulating the addresses, Argnetina, India, Turkey, and just about everything else I can think of and it gets denied on the payment screen every time.
We're sorry to hear it still isn't working after all the effort you put into it. It appears YouTube has changed its subscription process. We're going to run our own tests and update the article accordingly. If there is a way around this, you'll be able to read it here soon!
Didn't work for me.
Set up family group.
Used this method.
Get an error message that I have to contact Google.
That's very unfortunate! It appears that something has changed on YouTube's side since the last time we tested this. We're going to dive into it and update the article with a (hopefully) working method soon.
Do i have to keep running the VPN or once the youtube premium is bought i can use it in any country with no issues.?
Once you've got it, you can use it anywhere, although it won't always work the same way. If you're in a country where Premium isn't available (yet) YouTube Premium might show some ads and you might not be allowed to download videos. If this happens, turning on the VPN and refreshing the page should help. In any of the many countries where YouTube Premium is available, you won't have any issues and can just use Premium as you would with the VPN on.
